ISLAMABAD: The first comprehensive book in the English language on Iranian Foreign Policy was launched by Iqbal Forum in collaboration with Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) on Monday.

The book titled “The Foreign Policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran” has been written by prominent linguist and professor of International Relations at Tabatabayi University, Dr. Jalal Deghani Firouz Abadi, and duly translated by Dr. Muhammad Hussain Baqeri, a press release by IPRI said. The original book is written in Persian language. Baqeri is the chief of the Iqbal Forum and is the author of many books on ‘Iqbaliyat.’

The book delves into the policy perspective of Iran for the last four decades and does analysis in an independent manner. It is a debut work on foreign relations of the Islamic Republic after the Revolution of 1979, and all aspects of economic, domestic, and cultural domains that influenced the foreign ties have been discussed at length.

It explores the theoretical approaches to foreign policy and broadly looks at Iran’s tangible and intangible resources, which have been under sanctions and global pressure for decades.

The book also talks about the discourses of Iran and articulately divides it into sections of reformation, defense, and the path the nation has taken in building it as a self-reliant state.

It is a great read for academia, scholars, media people, and all those who objectively want to learn about the trajectory of Iranian foreign policy, both pre-revolution and post-revolution, the press release added.

Significant Book on Iran’s Foreign Policy

Dr. Baqeri, while elucidating on the book chapters in his presentation, said that it is a “must read” for those who want to grasp the troughs and crests of Iranian policy, and that too in the midst of bias set in by the West in the wake of sanctions on Tehran.

He said all eras since President Bani Sadr to the incumbent President Ebrahim Raisi have been discussed in detail, showcasing the elements at home and abroad that have come to influence and shape the policy.

He said that the sanctions are critically aimed at infrastructure and are meant to deprive Iran of developing as a vibrant nation-state.

He further said that Iran has come a long way, and sanctions and embargoes have failed to dent to its progress in the comity of states.

Dr Baqeri urged intelligentsia in Pakistan to visit Iran frequently and experience the change that has set in. The book will soon be translated into Urdu language, too.
