TEHRAN: Iran on Sunday strongly condemned the recent strikes conducted by the United States and Britain on Yemen, accusing them of deliberately seeking to heighten tensions and intensify crises in the region.

The fresh wave of strikes, carried out on Saturday by American and British forces, targeted 18 Houthi positions in Yemen, in retaliation for the group’s attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.

In a statement, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanani, denounced the strikes as arbitrary and aggressive, asserting that such military actions only serve to worsen insecurity and instability in the region without achieving any tangible goals for the aggressor nations.

Iran Criticizes US and UK for Failure to Stop Israel’s Aggression in Gaza

Kanani criticized the US and UK for their failure to stop Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, emphasizing the need for immediate and effective action to halt the violence.

The Houthi group claimed that its attacks on Red Sea shipping are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

Reacting to the strikes, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin affirmed the US’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring the free flow of commerce in critical waterways, signaling readiness to take further action if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree vowed to continue with attacks until the “aggression stops” in Gaza.
