Iran Allocates 3bn Euros to Secure Afghan, Other Borders

TEHRAN: Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has earmarked three billion euros to secure the country’s borders including with Afghanistan.

An Interior Ministry official, Majid Mirahmadi, stated that routes facilitating human and weapon smuggling, including through the Afghanistan border, have been prioritized in this initiative.

According to Iranian media reports, Ahmadi described the border blockade programme as comprehensive, involving multiple implementation layers, including wall construction, fencing and intelligent border control systems.

He recognized Raisi’s approval of the border fencing and instructed the armed forces to initiate the border sealing process within five years with this allocation.

According to the Deputy Security Minister of Iran’s Interior Ministry, Iran is securing its borders to ensure security and prevent human and weapon trafficking.

He said more than worth $20 billion smuggled goods enter or leave Iran annually. He was of the vies that addressing drug trafficking and insecurities plaguing Iran can all be resolved through fundamental investment in border securing.
