Iran FM Arrives in Pakistan on Official Visit

ISLAMABAD: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian arrived in Islamabad early Monday to hold in-depth talks with Pakistani leadership on bilateral ties, a foreign ministry statement said.

He was received at the Nur Khan airbase by Additional Foreign Secretary (Afghanistan and West Asia) Rahim Hayat.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Abdollahian will hold with Foreign Minister Jilani and call on Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

Iranian state media has reported that both sides will discuss security, economic and trade issues during the one-day visit.

It said the visit comes after Iran and Pakistan announced in a joint statement on January 22 that their respective ambassadors will return to their posts following problems caused by cross-border strikes.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran, Mudassir Tipu, while seeing off the Iranian Foreign minister in Tehran conveyed him best wishes of Pakistan’s leadership reaffirming Pakistan’s shared commitment to deepen historic and brotherly ties between the countries. He said Pakistan and Iran are confronting common challenges will build promising future.

Earlier, the United Nations expressed satisfaction with the formal resumption of friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran, considering it a positive development.

A spokesperson of the UN chief said that the UN Secretary General highlighted the significance of good relations between Iran and Pakistan for regional stability.
