Iranian FM Meets Pakistan’s Army Chief, Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Peace, Stability

RAWALPINDI: Iran Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian on Monday met with Pakistan Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), said a military statement issued by the Pakistan Army media affairs wing.

Recognizing the deep-rooted historical, religious, and cultural ties between Pakistan and Iran, both sides emphasized the need to enhance bilateral relations and foster a deeper understanding of each other’s concerns, read the ISPR statement.

Army Chief emphasized the paramount importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each state, considering it sacred, inviolable, and a fundamental principle in state-to-state relationships.

Acknowledging terrorism as a shared threat, the two sides stressed the importance of collaborative efforts, improved coordination, and intelligence sharing to address this common challenge.

General Syed Asim Munir highlighted the necessity for ongoing engagement and the use of available communication channels to address security concerns.

Both sides agreed to activate the deployment of military liaison officers in each other’s countries promptly, aiming to enhance coordination and efficiency in responding to mutual threats.

The commitment to maintaining close engagement and preventing external influences from creating divisions between the two nations was reaffirmed by both sides.

The ISPR said that Pakistan and Iran, being fraternal neighbors, share intertwined destinies, and both reiterated their dedication to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the border region. This was emphasized as an essential prerequisite for the well-being of people on both sides of the border.
