Iranian President Arrives in Lahore

LAHORE: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has arrived in Lahore on the second day of his three-day visit to Pakistan.  He was warmly received by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif at airport. He will hold meeting with the governor and Prince Minister Punjab during his stay in Lahore.  Earlier, the President held meeting with President, Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff during his first day of visit.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir NI (M), has met with President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi and discussed matters of mutual interest, the military’s media wing said on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussion primarily focused on matters of common interest, regional peace, stability, and border security.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iran’s President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi have discussed means to enhance bilateral ties between the two nations, the PM Office said in a statement on Monday.  The statement said that the two leaders have also agreed to take joint efforts to eradicate terrorism.

It added that they also discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade and communication between Islamabad and Tehran.  Iran’s President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi was given a guard of honour as he arrived at the Prime Minister House to meet with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with his high-powered delegation.  Iran’s President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi thanked the Prime Minister for warm welcome upon his arrival.

During the visit, Islamabad and Tehran have inked eight different MoUs in a ceremony held at PM House in Islamabad which was witnessed by the President Syed Ibrahim Raisi and PM Shehbaz Sharif.

The MoUs included ratification of security cooperation between the two sides, veterinary and animal health, judicial assistance, joint cooperation about establishment of special economic zone.

Meanwhile, Pakistan and Iran have agreed to promote their bilateral ties in diverse sectors including political, trade, economic, and culture. At a press a joint press conference, Iranian President Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said the two sides have decided to enhance their trade volume to 10 billion dollars.

The Iranian President emphasized the need for promotion of trade and business activities in the border regions for the wellbeing of the two sides people. President Raisi said both Iran and Pakistan are determined to fight terrorism and other organized crimes. The President of Iran hoped that his trip to Pakistan will be a turning point about the expansion and promotion of bilateral ties between the Pakistan and Iran.

On the occasion, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s solid commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties with Iran.  He said time has come to transform their border regions into the ones of economic prosperity and progress.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said Islamabad and Tehran enjoy historic ties and these are deep rooted in common faith and culture. He was confident that the trip of Iranian President will further strengthen and deepen the bilateral ties between Iran and Pakistan.

The PM said Islamabad stands by the Palestinian people. He said the Muslim countries need to collectively raise voice from various forums in support of Palestinians. Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his gratitude to the Iranian leadership for raising voice for the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).  The PM was confident that the day is not far when the people of Kashmir will also get their right to self-determination.

On the occasion, the two leaders also inaugurated the Iran Avenue, while President Raisi also planted a sapling at the premises of the Prime Minister House.
