ISLAMABAD: The official invitation from Asif Ali Durrani, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s Special Representative to Afghanistan, arrived in Islamabad. The primary objective of this diplomatic visit is to engage in high-level discussions addressing the evolving situation in Afghanistan and the shared concerns of both Iran and Pakistan.

Both nations, despite having relatively stable relations with the Taliban, are increasingly apprehensive about the potential use of Afghan territory against their respective interests. Pakistan has accused the Taliban of harboring groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which poses a direct threat to Pakistan’s security. Simultaneously, Iran is growing concerned about security challenges stemming from Afghanistan, including recent explosions in Kerman and border incursions from Afghanistan’s Nimroz province.

This diplomatic dialogue seeks to foster collaboration between Iran and Pakistan in managing and mitigating potential threats emanating from Afghanistan. It emphasizes the importance of regional cooperation to address the complex security landscape, especially with the Taliban in control of Afghanistan. The talks are pivotal in establishing a unified front against common challenges, ensuring regional stability, and fostering constructive relationships in the midst of evolving geopolitical dynamics.
