IRSA Releases Water from Indus River System

ISLAMABAD: The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) took action on Thursday by releasing 128,000 cusecs of water from various rim stations, responding to an inflow of 222,100 cusecs.

According to data provided by IRSA, the water level in the River Indus at Tarbela Dam stood at 1461.42 feet, marking an elevation of 47.42 feet above its dead level of 1,398 feet. Notably, the dam recorded an inflow of 39,100 cusecs and an outflow of 5,000 cusecs.

Similarly, at Mangla Dam, the water level in the River Jhelum was reported at 1160.20 feet, significantly surpassing its dead level of 1,050 feet by 109.20 feet. The dam registered an inflow of 75,500 cusecs and an outflow of 15,000 cusecs.

Further downstream, the release of water from various points was documented as follows: 77,200 cusecs from Kalabagh, 62,000 cusecs from Taunsa, 50,400 cusecs from Guddu, and 16,900 cusecs from Sukkur.

Additionally, from the River Kabul, a total of 74,700 cusecs of water was released at Nowshera, while 24,100 cusecs were released from the River Chenab at Marala.

The proactive measures taken by IRSA reflect efforts to manage water resources effectively and mitigate potential risks associated with fluctuating water levels in the region’s river systems.
