ISLAMABAD: A notification of the Finance Division is circulating on social media, claiming that the caretaker government has taken the extraordinary step of banning the Rs5,000 currency note with the cutoff date set for the end of the current month.
The notification, which declared the ban as a measure to strengthen the financial system and combat illicit financial activities, stated that the possession and circulation of Rs 5,000 currency notes would be prohibited throughout the country starting from September 30.
This unexpected announcement sent shockwaves across the nation, leaving citizens bewildered and scrambling to verify its authenticity.
Minister’s response to currency note ban
In the midst of this panic, Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, took to the social media to address the anxious public. In a statement posted on the X, formerly known as Twitter, Minister Solangi termed the notification fake.
