KARACHI: Islamabad United secured a place in the final of HBL PSL for the first time since 2018, owing to a remarkable seventh-wicket partnership between Imad Wasim and Haider Ali.

The thrilling victory over Peshawar Zalmi in Eliminator Two at National Bank Stadium, Karachi, showcased United’s resilience and determination.

Despite a challenging start, with United reeling at 50-4, the team’s batters showcased remarkable composure to chase down Zalmi’s total of 185-5. Imad Wasim and Haider Ali’s unbeaten partnership of 98 runs for the seventh wicket, the highest in HBL PSL history, proved to be the turning point of the match.

Zalmi’s bowlers initially posed a threat, but Imad and Haider’s partnership turned the tide in United’s favor. Imad’s unbeaten 59 and Haider’s 52 not out, supported by aggressive strokeplay, guided United to victory with an over to spare.

Earlier, Zalmi’s innings was highlighted by a fiery start from Babar Azam and Saim, who stitched a rapid 72-run opening partnership. Saim’s aggressive innings of 73 off 44 balls propelled Zalmi to a strong position before United’s bowlers staged a comeback, restricting Zalmi to 185-5.

Naseem Shah’s three-wicket haul and crucial contributions from other bowlers helped United contain Zalmi’s batting lineup. Despite valiant efforts from Zalmi’s batsmen, including Babar Azam and Mohammad Haris, United’s disciplined bowling performance limited Zalmi’s total.
