ISLAMABAD: In a symbolic gesture to strengthen bilateral ties, the federal government of Pakistan has officially renamed Islamabad’s 11th Avenue as ‘Iran Avenue’ on the occasion of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s official visit to Pakistan.

The decision to rename the avenue underscores the deepening friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries. Following the approval, the Interior Ministry issued a letter to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to proceed with the implementation of the renaming order.

President Raisi arrived in Islamabad on Monday morning for a three-day official visit, marking the first visit by any head of state to Pakistan since the general elections held in February 2024.

Upon his arrival at the Nur Khan Airbase, President Raisi received a warm welcome from Federal Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, signaling the importance attached to the visit by Pakistani authorities.

During his stay in Pakistan, President Raisi is scheduled to hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Additionally, he is set to visit Lahore and Karachi, where he will engage with provincial leaderships to further strengthen ties between Iran and Pakistan.

At the Prime Minister’s House, President Raisi was accorded a guard of honor upon his arrival, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally welcoming the Iranian president. President Raisi is accompanied by his wife, the foreign minister, cabinet members, senior officials, and a substantial business delegation, highlighting the significance of the visit in fostering economic cooperation between the two nations.
