GAZA CITY: The conflict in Gaza intensified as Israel’s airstrikes continued in central and northern regions, along with ground attacks in the southern part of the strip. The Israeli army has ordered Palestinians in southern Gaza to move to the so-called “safe zone” of al-Mawasi. However, people already in al-Mawasi express concerns about the effectiveness of this safe haven, with no guarantee of protection from Israeli bombings and air strikes.

The ongoing urban battles mark the bloodiest phase of the Gaza war, resulting in a staggering death toll of more than 18,205 Palestinians, mostly women and children, amid a deepening humanitarian crisis. As Israeli air strikes continue, particularly in Khan Younis in the south, many Gazans attempting to flee southward still face the peril of violence.

Over 18,205 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Bombardments in Gaza

Reports emerge of air strikes hitting Rafah, near Egypt, leading to the tragic death of seven Palestinian children from a displaced family. The death toll continues to rise, with dozens more casualties reported in various Gaza regions. The health ministry’s latest count stands at over 18,205 deaths.

Hamas issues a warning that the remaining 137 hostages it holds will not survive unless Israel meets its demands, including the release of more Palestinian prisoners. The UN General Assembly is set to convene on Tuesday to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, following the United States’ recent veto of a Security Council resolution for a ceasefire.

The Israeli airstrikes and siege have severely impacted basic services, especially healthcare, with only 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals functioning at any capacity, according to the UN humanitarian agency OCHA. Palestinian civilians, displaced and desperate, are seeking refuge in areas like the Al-Shifa hospital complex, where tens of thousands are taking shelter amid the rubble. The situation is dire, with shortages of water, electricity, bread, milk, and other essentials.
