GAZA: A senior Hamas official has said that Israel would fail to meet its goals of defeating the Palestinian group and freeing hostages by invading the southern Gaza city Rafah.

Even if Israel enters and invades Rafah, it will not achieve what it wants, Ghazi Hamad said in an interview. Hamad said Israel had spent about seven months in Gaza and invaded all areas and destroyed a lot, but so far has unable to achieve anything of its main objectives, whether eliminating Hamas or returning the captives.

Israel has pledged to move on with the planned military operation in Rafah, despite global outcry and concern for nearly 1.5 million Palestinians sheltering in the city.

There are fears of huge civilian casualties and nations including Israel’s top ally and weapons supplier the US have warned Israel against sending forces into Rafah.

Hamad said that it had spoken with all parties involved in the war about the seriousness of invading Rafah and that Israel was heading toward committing additional genocide and additional massacres.

He said that this would undoubtedly threaten the talks because it was clear from this declared position that Israel was interested in continuing the war and aggression and had no intention of continuing talks and reaching and a deal.
