DAMASCUS: Syrian air defenses on Thursday shot down Israeli missiles fired from the Golan Heights toward Damascus’ peripheries targeting a compound in the countryside, Syrian official said.

On April 1, an Israeli attack targeted the Iranian embassy building in Damascus, killing a senior commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps as well as other military officials, triggering Tehran’s first direct strike on Israel.

Israel has been carrying out attacks against Iran-backed targets in Syria for years but has ramped up such strikes since October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel. According to Reuters, Israel has been trading fire across its northern border with Hezbollah.
