JEDDAH: The renowned Japanese singer, Asca, kicked off her highly anticipated three-day concert series at City Walk’s Anime Village in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Asca, known for her enchanting vocals in the opening theme song for the anime “Sword Art Online” and the ending theme song for “Edens Zero,” delivered three captivating performances alongside fellow Japanese artist DJ Yamato from June 1-3.
City Walk became a hub of excitement as anime enthusiasts and music lovers gathered to witness the spectacular shows. Asca’s concerts marked her second performance in the Kingdom, following her successful show in Riyadh in December 2022. Expressing her delight, she commented, “Jeddah’s climate is very similar to that of Japan. It was very comfortable for me personally because the temperature was similar, and the humidity was high.”
The singer was overwhelmed by the warm reception from the Saudi audience and their dedicated support. “Fans also made handmade boards, jumped with us, and yelled out. Saudi Arabia is very far from Japan, but I was very happy when I thought that there were people in Saudi Arabia who supported me so much,” she shared with Arab News.
Asca Says Saudi Arabia Suits Her
Asca also observed the lively nature of Saudi Arabia’s people, particularly their penchant for nighttime activities. “I am a night person, so Saudi Arabia suits me,” she added with a smile.
Meanwhile, DJ Yamato, the first Japanese artist to collaborate with the late DJ Avicii, experienced performing in Saudi Arabia for the first time. Initially perceiving the audience as reserved, he soon witnessed their enthusiasm and cheerful spirits. “Once they opened up to us, everyone seemed to be in a good mood. Saudi people are friendly and amazing — I had a thought that music truly connects the world together,” he expressed to Arab News.
Accompanying DJ Yamato was Avex Asia, a production company specializing in anime, responsible for the stage policy at Anime Village in Jeddah.
