ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday announced constitution of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe into the attacks and vandalism by PTI activists and workers on law enforcement officials at the judicial complex in Islamabad during the appearance of PTI Chief and former prime minister Imran Khan.

Addressing a news conference, Rana Sanaullah said Imran Khan was summoned by courts in Toshakhana, foreign funding, and Tyrian White cases. However, at the time of Imran Khan’s appearance before the courts on Feb 28, an armed mob assaulted the police on duty and also entered the judicial complex in Islamabad, the minister remarked. He claimed that the CCTV cameras in the courtroom were also broken.

Rana Sanaullah said that the assault on the judicial complex is no less than terrorism as several policemen were wounded and abused. The minister claimed an atmosphere was created so that the cases of Imran Khan could not be heard.

A case against all this violence was filed at the capital’s Ramna police station under several charges, including Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act. The same attitude was also repeated at the Islamabad High Court, and another case filed at the same police station, the minister said.

Rana Sanaullah claimed that on March 18, once again, former prime minister Imran Khan came to court with armed men carrying arms and stones. The law enforcers were also insulted, wounded and assaulted and property damaged, the federal minister claimed, saying cases were filed at Golra and the CTD police stations in the federal capital.  Rana Sanaullah said that all these cases will be proceeded against the accused as per law, and all the alleged assailants, including former prime minister Imran Khan, arrested and brought to justice.

The minister said that a JIT has been formed in order to proceed all these cases and JIT will submit its report to the court within 14-day. The minister claimed former prime minister Imran Khan attacked the courts as per a well-planned conspiracy. It is essential that the JIT conduct a fair probe against these “criminals”, the minister said. The minister further said that all the culprits will be brought to justice and action will be taken as per law.
