AMMAN: Jordan secured a dominant 7-0 victory over Pakistan in their away fixture at the Amman International Stadium during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round 2 Qualifiers on Wednesday. Musa Al-Taamari led Jordan’s triumph with a hat-trick, scoring the first, fourth, and sixth goals, while Yazan Al-Naimat added a second from a penalty kick in the 28th minute. Saad Al-Rousan extended the lead with the third goal in the 52nd minute. Ali Alwan and Muhammad Abu Zureiq scored goals in the 75th and 83rd minutes, respectively.

This impressive win propelled Jordan to second place in Group Seven of the Asian qualifiers, accumulating seven points. Their journey in the qualifiers includes a previous 3-0 victory over Pakistan in Islamabad and marked Jordan’s first visit to Pakistan for a football match in 18 years.

Unfortunately for Pakistan, key defenders Mohammad Fazal and Abdullah Iqbal were unavailable for the match. Fazal sustained a hamstring injury, while Iqbal was suspended due to accumulated yellow cards from previous matches.

Despite setbacks, Pakistan’s performance in the qualifiers showcased a mix of victories and defeats. They secured their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualifier win against Cambodia but suffered a 4-0 loss to Saudi Arabia in the subsequent round.

Looking ahead, two teams from the group will advance to the third round of qualifiers, while the remaining two sides will compete in the Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

Reflecting on their previous encounter, Pakistan’s English coach Stephen Constantine expressed satisfaction with his team’s display, limiting Jordan to three goals during the match in Islamabad.
