Earlier, King Abdullah, in a meeting Sunday with the US Secretary of State, called on the US to press Israel for an “immediate truce” and to put an end to the humanitarian crisis brought by the Gaza conflict.

Blinken also held talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and discussed the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and the need for an immediate stop to the aggression to ensure the protection of civilian population.

He also stressed the need to remove hindrances placed by Israel to prevent the access of adequate and sustained humanitarian and medical help to all parts of Gaza. He also reaffirmed Jordan’s stance in rejecting the displacement of Palestinian people inside or outside their land, denouncing it as a war crime and a dangerous escalation of the war.

Jordan and other regional countries have been highly critical of Israel’s acts in the Gaza Strip. They have been demanding an urgent truce since mid-October as civilian casualties started to skyrocket. Israel has declined and Washington has instead called for specified temporary “humanitarian pauses” to permit aid to get in and people to get to safety.

Aid and human rights organizations have warned of the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, where war erupted between Israel and Hamas since October 7.

The health ministry in Gaza said more than 23,210 Palestinians mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza in the ongoing Israeli strikes since October 7. The ministry said in a statement that it had recorded 126 deaths in the past 24 hours. The ministry also reported that 59,167 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip during more than three months of relentless Israeli bombardments.
