AMMAN: Foreign Minister of Jordan Ayman Safadi on Thursday received a telephone call from his Irish counterpart Micheal Martin to discuss the war in Gaza.

The two ministers during the call stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the speedy delivery of sustainable and sufficient aid to the besieged enclave.

They also emphasized the significance of implementing Security Council Resolution adopted on Tuesday, which called for a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan.

Israel on Wednesday bombed at least four homes in Rafah raising fears of a ground offensive. Safadi highlighted the need of upholding international law and humanitarian values.

The discussion also touched upon ongoing measures to stop Israel’s offensive and address the humanitarian crisis.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued partnership and joint efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Safadi stressed the importance of Ireland and other European countries to officially recognize the Palestinian state. He praised Ireland’s stance on Gaza ceasefire and need for aid, as well as its backing of the two-state solution.

Israel since October 7 has laid siege to Gaza, cutting off food, fuel, water, and power supplies.
