AMMAN: Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, spoke to his Australian counterpart on Thursday to express his condolences for the death of an Australian aid worker in an Israeli airstrike and discuss the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Jordan’s Foreign Minister emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and the importance of humanitarian aid delivery to the embattled enclave.

During a telephone call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Safadi condemned the Israeli airstrike that resulted in the death of an Australian aid worker, labeling it as a war crime. Both ministers underscored the necessity of safeguarding humanitarian workers and ensuring unhindered aid access to all parts of the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile in conversation with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, Safadi expressed appreciation for Tokyo’s decision to resume funding for UNRWA, the UN agency aiding Palestinian refugees. The ministers highlighted the critical role of UNRWA in addressing the humanitarian crisis affecting millions of Palestinians in Gaza.

Amid ongoing efforts to provide assistance, the Royal Jordanian Air Force, in collaboration with several nations including the US, UAE, Egypt, Germany, and the Netherlands, conducted 10 airdrops into Gaza. These airdrops included essential supplies such as food and clothing, aimed at alleviating the suffering of Gaza’s population ahead of the Eid holiday.

Furthermore, Jordan reiterated its commitment to supporting Gaza by facilitating aid operations through an air bridge from Marka Airport in Amman to El-Arish International Airport in North Sinai. This logistical support enables both aerial deliveries and the coordination of ground-based aid convoys.
