Jordan’s King, Kamala Harris Discuss Situation in Gaza

DUBAI: Jordan’s King Abdullah II and the US Vice President met in Dubai and discussed situation in Gaza and bilateral ties, Arab media reported on Saturday.  According to the Jordan News Agency, the meeting was held on the sidelines of COP28 in Dubai. Jordan’s King stressed the need for Washington to play a leading role in pushing for a political horizon for the issue of Palestine to reach peace on the basis of the two-state solution, during his talks with Harris.

He called for an immediate truce in the Gaza Strip and protecting civilian population, warning of the consequences of the continued war on world peace and security, including further violence and crisis that could plunge the region into a disaster.

They reaffirmed their rejection of any effort of forced displacement of the Palestinian people internally or outside the Gaza Strip, or attempts to re-occupy any areas of the Strip, Arab media reported.

Jordan’s King also stressed the significance of maintaining the uninterrupted delivery of sufficient help, including water, food, fuel, and electricity, without any obstacles, warning against the targeting of hospitals and impeding the sending of medical supplies.

During a press conference in Dubai, Kamala Harris has said that too many innocent Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as Israeli artillery and war planes bombarded the strip on Saturday after the collapse of a truce between Hamas and Israel. Speaking in Dubai, UAE Kamala Harris said that too many innocent Palestinian people have been killed in the Gaza Strip and insisted that Israel must respect humanitarian law. She told the reports, “Honestly, the scale of civilian population suffering, and the pictures and videos coming from the Gaza, are very devastating,”.

Health officials in Gaza also said that Israel’s brutal attack has killed over 15,000 people, also mostly women and children, since it was launched around eight weeks ago.
