AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah II has called for the protection of civilian population in a phone call with US President Joe Biden, the Royal Hashemite Court said on Thursday. On the other hand, a White House official also confirmed that President Biden spoke with King Abdullah regarding the latest developments in Gaza.

According to Jordanian media, King Abdullah called for an urgent truce in the Gaza Strip and the protection of civilian population, stressing the significance of maintaining strong coordination and exerting efforts to end the fighting and reach peace.

Discussions also covered assuring the delivery of adequate humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip without any delay, with King Abduallah warning that the humanitarian situation will worsen further if Israeli aggressions continue.

King Abdullah II also reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of any effort to forcibly displace the people of Palestine within or outside the Gaza Strip, or any act to reoccupy any part of the Gaza Strip.

The two sides also discussed the dangerous developments in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, and the significance of maintaining calm, with the Jordanian King warning that the dangerous Israeli escalation and the violence carried out by extremist settlers against the people of Palestine could expand the conflict and create chaos in the occupied West Bank.

The King said that Washington has a leading role to play in pushing towards a political horizon for the issue of Palestine to reach peace on the foundation of the two-state solution.
