ISLAMABAD: Justice continues to elude the victims of Kunanposhpora mass rape despite the passing of over three decades in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Indian troops gang-raped around one hundred Kashmiri women of all ages from 8-year-old girls to 80 years old women during a cordon and search operation in Kunanposhpora area of Kupwara district on the night of February 23, 1991, according to Kashmir Media Service.

Thirty-three years have passed since the Kunanposhpora mass rape occurred but the victims are still awaiting justice while the forces involved in the heinous crime are roaming free, the report said on Friday on the completion of 33 years to the tragic incident.

It said that the memories of Kunanposhpora mass rape are still alive in the minds of Kashmiris.

The report said out that Indian forces have raped, gang-raped and molested 11,263 women in the occupied valley since January 1989 till date.

It said, the impunity given by India to its forces under draconian laws is the main reason behind the Kunanposhpora-like tragedies.

Kunanposhpora mass rape glaring example of Indian troops’ brutalities

The report said that Kunanposhpora mass rape is a glaring example of Indian forces’ brutalities in the occupied territory. It is a blot on the so-called democratic face of India, which is using the rape of women as a weapon of state terrorism in the valley.

Kunanposhpora tragedy is proof of institutionalized violence being used by New Delhi and the war crimes perpetrated by Indian troops in Kashmir, it said added.
