BRUSSELS: The Chairman of the Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU), Ali Raza Syed, has commended the recent report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) for accurately highlighting the widespread human rights violations committed by Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Syed acknowledged the HRW’s findings, which confirm severe human rights abuses in the disputed region.

In a statement, Ali Raza Syed emphasized the challenges faced by the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where Indian authorities impose restrictions on freedom of expression, peaceful protests, and gatherings. The region witnesses numerous hardships, including extrajudicial killings, target killings, forced disappearances, and sexual assaults on women by the occupation forces.

The KCEU chairman condemned the Indian foreign ministry’s objection to the recent visit of two British diplomats to Azad Kashmir. He highlighted that the entire Jammu and Kashmir is internationally recognized as a disputed territory and is not an integral part of India. He reiterated that India forcibly deployed its military forces in a significant part of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, and this area is referred to as Indian illegally occupied Kashmir.
