Kashmiri Delegation Calls on Special Rapporteur Voule at UNHRC Geneva

GENEVA: A Kashmiri delegation called on Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association Celement Nyaletsossio Voule at United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Geneva on Tuesday.

The Kashmiri delegation, comprising Hassn ul Banna, Advocate Parvez Ahmad Shah, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, and Barrister Nida Salam apprised the Celement Nyaletsossio Voule regarding the denial of freedom of peaceful assembly and association to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The delegation told the Special Rapporteur that on the eve of Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi’s recent trip to IIOJK, the people of the occupied valley were hounded under the barrel of the gun to attend the gathering in Bakhshi stadium where Modi spoke against their will.

Delegation Informs Special Rapporteur on Other Issues

The visiting delegation informed that the government employees and students were threatened if they did not attend the engineered gathering. The delegation also drew the attention of the Special Voule towards the banning of pro-freedom organizations and groups who showed dissent to the Indian illegal occupation.

The delegation informed the Special Rapporteur about the denial of religious rights to Kashmiris and the continuous detention and denial of Mufti Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from addressing the Friday congregation and denying the people from performing their religious freedoms.

The Special Rapporteur noted the delegation’s submissions and expressed serious concern about the denial of freedom of peaceful assembly and association to the people of the occupied territory.
