Kings of Bahrain, Jordan Discuss Cooperation on Regional Developments

AMMAN: King of Jordan Abdullah II and King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa on Wednesday met in Aqaba city to discuss Arab cooperation on the regional issues.

According to Jordanian media the two sides during the meeting highlighted the significance of the upcoming Arab League Summit, which will be opened in the Bahraini capital Manama on May 16, to discuss the challenges faced by the region.

King Abdullah on the occasion praised the efforts of Bahrain in organizing the event.

The leaders highlighted the strong ties between Bahrain and Jordan expressed their strong desire to further enhance economic cooperation.

King Hamad lauded Jordan for its role in promoting peace in the region and its backing for Arab and Islamic causes, particularly the issue of Palestine.

The leaders stressed the need for global intervention to achieve a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and called on the UN Security Council to act immediately to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance and prevent the conflict from escalating.

They also expressed their opposition to any actions that might expand the conflict, including the Israeli ground military offensive in Rafah or the displacement of Palestinians.
