DHAKA: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has initiated a program in Dhaka to treat thousands of Bangladeshi schoolchildren suffering from eye disease, Arab media reported on Tuesday.

Saudi doctors to treat Bangladeshis

The campaign is part of KSrelief’s ophthalmological projects in Bangladesh, where volunteer doctors from Saudi Arabia give medical assistance Bangladeshis to regain their eyesight.

In May the center’s Saudi Noor Volunteer Program treated more than 4,700 people.

Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, KSrelief’s assistant supervisor-general for planning and development told reporters in Dhaka that helping to reduce the blindness rate and visual impairments in Bangladesh has been the top priority for center.

The campaign will begin with teachers training as they will be the first to identify the eye problems in students.

Al-Ghamdi told Arab News that the screening program in 50 schools in Dhaka will cover about 30,000 students.

Under the program, KSrelief will distribute glasses for students who need them, while others will be sent to doctors for more medical assistance.

Al-Ghamdi was of the view that the program would change the lives of the students who were suffering from eye dieses.

Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Essa Al-Duhailan has said the medical campaign also demonstates the wide-range Saudi-Bangladesh ties.

KSrelief provides humanitarian and development support to millions of people in 94 countries. More than 6 million people have received the center’s support in Bangladesh, where 52 projects worth $25 million have been carried out since 2015.
