Kyrgyz-Uzbek- Chinese Railway Steps into Active Phase of Development

BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Zhaparov has highlighted the current development phase of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, local media reported. He was addressing at the anniversary meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow.

Zhaparov has underscored the importance of aligning the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with China’s One Belt, One Road initiative. He emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s significant progress in improving transportation connections among member states, citing projects like the North-South transport corridor.

He mentioned agreements to establish new border crossings and enhance the capacity of existing checkpoints with China. Additionally, he noted that all 14 of Kyrgyzstan’s border checkpoints along the EAEU customs border are technologically equipped.

Zhaparov stressed the necessity of closer cooperation between the EAEU and other nations to facilitate fast transit through digital platforms, aiming to eliminate legal and infrastructural barriers and coordinate regulatory efforts.

The planned 454-kilometer railway aims to link China’s and Uzbekistan’s railways through Kyrgyzstan, with further integration into the European railway network via Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey.
