LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday fixed two cases of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan for hearing (today) Thursday.

The court will hear two pleas as one petition filed against the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s (PEMRA) ban on former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speeches and in the second one the PTI chief is seeking to attend online hearings because of security “threats”.

In the petition seeking online hearings, Imran Khan has also pleaded the court to provide a “foolproof security arrangement” and assure his security and safety as guaranteed under the country’s constitution.

In the plea, Chairman PTI also sought approval to mark attendance and attend hearing through video link due to “serious threat and risk” to him. He requested that the court should also take strict action against state machinery if it fails to control law and order in the court during the proceedings of the cases.

Imran Khan, in his petition, also pleaded the court to ensure that no “adverse action” should be taken against him “till he is properly facilitated and provided appropriate security arrangements for court appearances”.

In the plea filed against PEMRA’s ban, Imran Khan said that the exercise of powers by the media watchdog was “unreasonable” and violation of the constitution of Pakistan. The plea added that PEMRA’s order had “been made to control the free media of Pakistan and forcing them into submitting to the evil designs of the Government”.
