Islamabad: Lawari Sports Festival kicked off on Sunday evening at the sports ground near the Lawari Tunnel in Upper Dir of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Deputy Commissioner Upper Dir Gouhar Zaman Wazir and District Sports Officer Sadiqullah Khan inaugurated the festival. The event included fireworks, rugby, music, cultural shows, food competition, and sports games, including tug of war, volleyball, and other traditional and local. A large number of players, spectators, government officials, and students of schools and colleges graced the event, being witnessed in a chilling environment with below zero degrees Celsius.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Dir Upper said that the purpose of the event was to convey a message of peace and promote the tourist spots of the area’s lush green and snow-covered mountains. He added that more such events would be arranged in the future to attract tourists to the area.
Later the event also witnessed splendid fireworks and the distribution of prizes among the winning teams and players.
