LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed different petitions seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan over his “contemptuous remarks” and for “scandalising” the judges of the Supreme Court.

The Registrar’s Office Lahore High Court (LHC) had earlier raised an objection on the pleas saying the alleged contemptuous remarks were about the superior court’s judges and how a high court could hear these pleas. However, the petitions were fixed as objection petitions before Justice Shujaat Ali Khan who heard them on Tuesday.

During the court proceedings, the petitioners’ counsels alleged that a campaign had been launched after a ruling of ex-National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri had been set aside by the Supreme court. He further argued that a pre-planned attack was designed at the judicial complex Islamabad last week during Imran’s appearance in different cases and that the PTI chairman was the mastermind behind the conspiracy.

However, Justice Shujaat maintained that prima facie, Imran Khan’s remarks are about the supreme court judges. He questioned the maintainability of the petitions and how they could be heard in the LHC.

The petitioners’ counsels prayed to the court to initiate contempt proceedings against Imran Khan but Justice Shujaat Ali Khan dismissed the petitions as non-maintainable and directed the petitioners to “approach the relevant forum”.
