TRIPOLI: The residence of Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah was targeted with rocket-propelled grenades on Sunday in an attack that left no casualties, a Libyan minister told international media.

The minister, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not provide any further details regarding the incident.

Residents reported hearing significant explosions near the sea in Tripoli’s upscale Hay Andalus neighborhood, where PM Dbeibah’s residence is located. Following the explosions, heavy security forces and vehicles were observed being deployed in the vicinity.

Since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising, Libya has experienced little peace or stability, culminating in a split between eastern and western factions in 2014, each governing their respective areas with rival administrations.

In early March, three key leaders expressed agreement on the “necessity” of forming a new unified government to oversee long-delayed elections. Despite this, Dbeibah has vowed not to relinquish power to a new government without national elections.
