DUBAI: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia has vehemently denounced the ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians in Gaza, labeling it as “sheer hypocrisy” for Western nations, including the United States, to turn a blind eye to the atrocities being committed.

In an interview with Katie Jensen on the Arab News program “Frankly Speaking,” Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s firm stance against the genocide in Gaza, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

“We have issued statements to suggest that their genocide must end,” Anwar affirmed, highlighting the urgent need for the international community to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He underscored the moral imperative of condemning such inhumane and barbaric acts, regardless of political affiliations.

Acknowledging the efforts of Arab nations, Turkey, Iran, and others in addressing the crisis, Anwar emphasized the collective responsibility of countries worldwide to express grave concern and take decisive action to end the violence. He warned against the repercussions of prolonged conflict, cautioning that it could fuel extremism and terrorism.

The prospect of warrants being issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of deliberately starving Palestinians underscores the gravity of the situation. Anwar expressed his support for such measures, asserting that once genocide is established, warrants must be issued without hesitation.

In a separate development in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar addressed the ongoing trial of an Israeli national suspected of entering Malaysia for nefarious purposes. While investigations are ongoing to determine any links to espionage or organized crime, Anwar emphasized the seriousness of the case and the authorities’ commitment to uncovering the truth.

Regarding the possibility of an independent Palestinian state, Anwar emphasized that the global support for Palestinian statehood cannot be disregarded by any nation, including the United States. He condemned any attempts to deny the aspirations of Palestinians and the international community, stressing the importance of respecting the sentiments and decisions of the majority of nations.

Anwar’s statements reflect Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to justice and human rights, as well as its solidarity with the Palestinian people in their quest for dignity, freedom, and self-determination.
