DAMBULLA: Angelo Mathews, the versatile all-rounder, showcased his prowess with a rapid 42 runs and claimed two crucial wickets, propelling Sri Lanka to clinch the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan with a resounding 72-run victory in the second encounter on Monday.

Despite grappling with hamstring tightness, former skipper Mathews, aged 36, defied odds by smashing an unbeaten 42 off just 22 deliveries, embellished with four sixes and two boundaries. His assault, especially on Azmatullah Omarzai, culminated in three consecutive sixes in the penultimate over. “I’m ready to adapt to any role the team requires,” expressed Mathews, emphasizing his commitment to team dynamics.

Mathews’ blistering innings injected crucial momentum, propelling Sri Lanka to a formidable total of 187 for six in their allotted 20 overs, with a staggering 34 runs amassed in the final two overs.
