ISLAMABAD: Today’s Google Doodle commemorates the tireless efforts and significant contributions of workers across the globe on the occasion of Labour Day.  This annual event serves as a tribute to the workers globally.

In honour of Labour Day, which falls on May 1st every year, Google has dedicated its Doodle to recognize the vital role played by workers worldwide. This special rendition of the Google logo aims to acknowledge the essential contributions and unwavering dedication of workers in enhancing our daily lives.

Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has consistently employed a unique approach to celebrate various facets of culture, historical movements, and iconic figures by creatively modifying its logo. On Labour Day, observed annually on May 1st, Google unveils a distinctive Doodle, which will be visible in regions including South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Labour Day, observed on May 1st, holds significant importance in numerous countries across the globe. It pays homage to the historic achievements of the labour movement, which emerged in the late 19th century, advocating for improved working conditions, fair wages, and the implementation of the eight-hour workday.

The origins of Labour Day are deeply rooted in the struggle for workers’ rights, particularly in the United States and Canada. During the late 19th century, labour unions organised strikes and protests to demand better working conditions. The Haymarket affair in Chicago in 1886, where a peaceful labour rally turned violent, became a pivotal event. In response, the International Socialist Conference declared May 1st as International Workers’ Day in 1889, in tribute to the Haymarket martyrs, symbolising solidarity among workers worldwide.

As countries commemorate Labour Day in their distinctive ways, the core message remains consistent: to acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable contributions of workers and to strive for a fair and more just society.

Furthermore, on the occasion of International Labour Day today, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have vowed to uphold their dignity, paying tribute to their historic struggle of workers.
