ISLAMABAD: Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a candidate for the Islamabad-Rajouri parliamentary constituency in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), has emphasized that the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in the territory transcend basic issues.

Speaking at party conventions and road shows in Mandi tehsil areas of Poonch district, Mufti underscored that the primary focus of this election is the restoration of the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which were revoked on August 5, 2019.

While acknowledging the significance of issues like electricity, water, road connectivity, and education, Mufti stressed that the current elections go beyond these concerns. She emphasized that the restoration of the rights that were unjustly taken away holds paramount importance in shaping the electoral discourse in the region.

Mufti highlighted the eagerness of the people in the parliamentary constituency to elect a representative who can effectively voice their concerns and advocate for their rights in the parliament. Despite the conventional focus on local development issues during elections, Mufti asserted that the urgency of addressing the larger political and human rights crisis in IIOJK takes precedence in the current electoral landscape.

Leading the PDP’s election campaign in the Poonch (Mandi) area, Mufti engaged with the public through public gatherings and a road show from Mandi to Loran. Her campaign efforts reflect the party’s commitment to addressing the core issues facing the region and advocating for the restoration of rights that have been denied to the people of IIOJK.
