NEW YORK: The closely guarded details of the 2024 Met Gala, held on Monday night, have finally been revealed.
“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the Costume Institute’s current exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, is expected to feature over 250 pieces from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, many of which have seldom been seen in public before.
As for the theme of the Met Gala 2024, it will celebrate the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” with the official dress code being “The Garden of Time.” Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, the exhibit will feature designs by renowned names such as Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy, and more. Additionally, the exhibition will incorporate innovative display techniques, including video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and other sensory stimulation methods, to showcase fragile garments like a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877.
The hosts of the 2024 Met Gala include Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, following the star-studded lineup from the previous year. Anna Wintour, who has overseen the Met Gala since 1995, continues to shape it into the beloved annual celebration of fashion it is today.
This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” draws inspiration from JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name, offering attendees a myriad of creative interpretations. Expect to see an array of floral and botanical looks gracing the iconic Met Gala red carpet.
