ISLAMABAD/LONDON: London’s Metropolitan Police on Wednesday apologised after another officer was convicted of sex crimes.

The Metropolitan Police have admitted that on average, two to three police officers faced criminal charges in London court every week.

According to the AFP, the London Police are battling to restore its reputation after a serving officer was jailed for life for the rape, kidnap, and murder of a young woman and girls in south London in 2021.

Metropolitan Police and sex offenses

This month, another officer admitted to 24 rapes and a string of other sex offenses, prompting new questions about lax vetting procedures at the Metropolitan Police.

In the latest sex case, police constable Hussain Chehab on Tuesday admitted having sex with a 14-year-old girl and possessing indecent pictures of children.

A London court was told that Chehab had even served as the school liaison officer during his time on the force.

Police commissioner Mark Rowley said that the case was “ghastly” and conceded that the force was dealing with “more than a few bad apples”.

The London police chief apologised over the incident and indicated that more cases were likely to emerge as he implements reforms to root out the criminal and corrupt in the Metropolitan Police’s ranks.
