ISLAMABAD: Millions of Muslim believers around the world have started the observance of Itikaaf, a period of devout seclusion and prayer.
From Sunday evening, worshippers have embarked on this spiritual journey, dedicating themselves to reciting the Holy Quran, offering Nawafil prayers, and pleading Almighty Allah for blessings upon humanity.
Itikaaf, a practice deeply rooted in the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is traditionally observed during the last 10 days of Ramadan. Men retreat to mosques, while women seclude themselves within their homes, devoting their time to prayer and reflection.
Mosques across Pakistan have made special arrangements to accommodate those observing Itikaaf, ensuring a conducive environment for prayer and contemplation. Additionally, generous contributions from philanthropists and mosque administrations have facilitated the provision of Sehri and Iftar meals for participants.
In Islamabad, at least 300 people started observing Itikaaf at the Faisal Masjid, while in Lahore, hundreds embarked on this spiritual retreat in mosques such as Data Sahib Mosque, Badshahi Mosque, and Minhajul Quran Mosque.
The period of Itikaaf will continue until the sighting of the Shawwal moon, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr. During these sacred days, believers seek spiritual renewal, drawing closer to their faith and seeking blessings for themselves and their communities.
In provincial metropolis, at hundreds of mosques, thousands of Muslims sat in Itikaaf before Maghrib prayers on Sunday. The arrangements were being made under the supervision of the Punjab Auqaf Department in the province’s top 100 endowed mosques, including Jamia Masjid Data Darbar, Badshahi Masjid, Jamia Ashrafia, Jamia Naeemia, Jamia Almuntazir and other historically significant mosques.
In Jamia Masjid Data Darbar, the city of seclusion has been divided into four sections for over 2,000 seclusion seekers. The process of setting up cabins named after Baba Ghousia, Baba Farid, Baba Bahoo, and Baba Ahmad Raza has begun in the designated sections. More than 500 citizens sat in the historical and globally renowned Badshahi Mosque. Special arrangements are being made for the security of those secluding at both locations in Lahore.
