Moin Akhtar Being Remembered on Death Anniversary

KARACHI: The 13th death anniversary of Moin Akhtar is being observed today. He started his stage career at the age of sixteen and quickly became a household name for his masterful impressions and side-splitting parodies. The great Moin Akhtar entertained fans with his wide-ranging craft for forty years on both television and stage.

He was in Karachi on December 24, 1950, and knew several languages including English, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Memoni, and Bengali, too. Moin Akhtar’s famous dramas include ‘Intezar Farmaiye,’ ‘Rosy,’ ‘Aangan Terha,’ ‘Studio Ponay Teen,’ ‘Bund Road,’ ‘Eid Train’ ‘Studio Dhai,’ and ‘Yes Sir, No Sir’.

Moin Akhtar later worked with Anwar Maqsood. Together, they hosted over 400 episodes of the 1995 satirical talk show “Loose Talk” and also entertained millions playing various characters. In recognition of his contributions, Akhtar was awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance in 1996 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2011. He passed away of a cardiac arrest in Karachi on April 22, 2011.
