Morocco Initiates Gaza Aid Route Through Israel

RABAT: Morocco has dispatched 40 tons of humanitarian aid for Gaza via an Israeli airport, said a diplomatic source on Tuesday.

The food assistance has reached at Tel Aviv Airport before being transported to the Palestinian Red Crescent at the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza.

Foreign ministry of Morocco in a statement said that it is the first country to send its humanitarian aid via this unprecedented land route.

Since the war started on October 7, aid trucks have normally entered the Gaza Strip via Egypt.

The diplomatic source said that diplomatic ties between Morocco and Israel were formalized in a US-brokered pact in 2020.

The source said that Morocco has always said that its ties with Israel is intended to achieve peace in the region and the interests of the Palestinians.

The United Nations has repeatedly voiced its concerns of looming famine in Gaza, facing Israeli blockade.

Most of the assistance entered in Gaza through Rafah, border crossing with Egypt.

A Spanish charity boat carrying 200 tons of food assistance to Gaza began its journey from Cyprus on Tuesday in hopes of opening a maritime corridor to end the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Four US Army ships left the United States, carrying equipment to construct a temporary port on Gaza’s shores for delivers of aid.

According to Gaza health ministry Israel’s bombardment and ground offensive have killed 31,184 people in Gaza, mostly women and children so far.
