ISLAMABAD: Russia on Wednesday warned Tel Aviv against weapons deliveries to Ukraine after Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu announced he was thinking of sending military aid for Kyiv and was willing to mediate in the conflict.

Russian’s foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that other countries should understand that we consider countries that supply weapons to be Russian armed forces’ legitimate targets.

Israel has sought to remain neutral since the start of Russia’s ongoing offensive in Ukraine, emphasizing special ties with Moscow, million plus citizens from the former Soviet Union.

Moscow has warned of an escalation in the conflict as Ukraine’s Western allies vow more weapons for Kyiv.

Zakharova maintained that any bid for supplying new, additional and some other weapons, whether implemented or only announced, would lead to an escalation.

Kyiv seeks fighter jets, long-range artillery

Last month, the United States and Germany announced that they would provide modern tanks to Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian leadership is also seeking long-range artillery and fighter jets.
