LAHORE: In the plains of Punjab, a blanket of heavy fog descended early Friday morning, causing a substantial reduction in visibility.

Responding to these challenging weather conditions, authorities have implemented precautionary measures by closing highways at various points to ensure the safety of travellers.

According to Motorway Police spokesperson, the thick fog in the plains of Punjab has led to the temporary shutdown of Motorway M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem Interchange. Similarly, Motorway M5 is closed from the Taranda Muhammad Panah Interchange, stretching to the Lahore Sialkot Motorway up to Sambarial, and Motorway M2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Sarwar.

The Multan Motorway is also inaccessible for traffic from Lahore to Rajana. Fog-induced closures persist, affecting the route from Faisalabad to Multan via Motorway M4 and from Faizpur to Darkhana via Motorway M3.

Furthermore, Motorway M2 is restricted for all traffic from Kot Momin to Pindi Bhattian due to the prevailing heavy fog. Stressing the importance of safety, the Motorway Police spokesperson urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in foggy conditions.

The decision to close these motorways underscores the commitment to prioritizing the well-being of passengers amid adverse weather conditions.
