PYONGYANG: North Korea has accused the United States (US) of politicizing human rights in the East Asian nation, condemning what it called political conspiracy and provocation, western media reported on Saturday.

North Korea will make stern and decisive choices to secure its sovereignty and safety in reply to Washington using human rights as a tool for hostile and invasion, anti-North Korea behavior, official media KCNA cited a spokesperson of foreign ministry as saying.

The spokesperson quoted a special envoy on human rights in the administration of Biden. The ambassador on North Korean human rights issues, Julie Turner, visited Tokyo and Seoul in February to discuss the issue of North Korea.

An annual report this week by the State Department highlighted “significant human rights issues” in N Korea.

It also cited credible reports of “arbitrary or unlawful killings, including enforced disappearance; extrajudicial killings; torture or cruel, degrading treatment or inhuman, or punishment by government authorities”.
