Naila Kiani Makes History as First Pakistani Woman to Scale 11 8,000m Summits

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani mountaineer, Naila Kiani has etched her name in history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to conquer 11 peaks exceeding 8,000 meters in height. The remarkable feat was accomplished on Saturday when Kiani successfully summited Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest peak, standing tall at 8,485 meters in Nepal.

Kiani’s ascent of Makalu marks a significant milestone in her illustrious mountaineering career, with the historic moment captured at approximately 8:50 am (PST).

Expressing her gratitude, Kiani extended heartfelt thanks to her fellow countrymen for their prayers and well-wishes. She also acknowledged the invaluable support of Sherpa Gelgen Dai from Imagine Nepal, whose unwavering assistance played a pivotal role in her success.

Prior to her latest triumph, Kiani had already carved a distinguished legacy in mountaineering. She had previously attained the distinction of being the first Pakistani woman to conquer all of Pakistan’s 8,000-meter peaks. Additionally, she holds the unique honor of being the sole Pakistani woman to summit 10 eight-thousanders.

Beyond her accomplishments in mountaineering, Kiani’s multifaceted journey is a testament to her exceptional abilities and resilience. As an aerospace engineer and a devoted mother of two, she has pursued academic excellence, earning accolades for her studies at the University of London. Furthermore, her professional achievements extend to her role as an associate vice president at a UK-based multinational bank.
