NDMA Chairman Meets Swiss Foreign Minister to Discuss Disaster Management

ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Governor Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik held a meeting with Swiss Foreign Minister Inazio Malik on Sunday. Cassis held an interactive session to discuss key issues during her visit to NDMA headquarters to discuss disaster management. and endurance.

The Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) stressed the importance of community involvement in the reconstruction process.

He mentioned the unprecedented floods of 2022 and the need for an early warning system (EWS) to mitigate the negative effects of disasters. emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness in Pakistan and noted that dealing with two disasters at the same time can be a dangerous task with serious consequences.

He briefed the Swiss delegation on inclusive and people-centered disaster preparedness and talked about the three country simulation exercise (SimEx) run by the NDMA to support disaster preparedness in Pakistan.

The NDMA Director announced the creation of the NEOC for international cooperation to develop a National Operational Program (NCOP) and develop recommendations for all relevant International NGOs, academia and local business stakeholders and to reduce disaster risk. He emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing and capacity building with regional universities.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said that he is satisfied with the Memorandum of Understanding between Switzerland and Pakistan on disaster management cooperation. He emphasized the similarities between the areas and the challenges facing the two countries, emphasizing the importance of knowing how to solve complex problems for disaster management and control, respecting risk.

Minister Cassis expressed his interest in exploring solutions and opportunities for cooperation.

The Swiss Minister appreciated Pakistan’s progress and achievements in disaster management and looked forward to future cooperation under the MoU. The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue working together to improve disaster management and share best practices in this area.
