ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Rs 2.83 per unit increase in the power tariff for the month of March 20204, on account of monthly fuel adjustment, according to an official statement issued here on Wednesday.
With the recent increase, inflation-hit consumers would face further burdens as they are already complaining about continuous hikes in tariff charges. As per the notification by NEPRA, the recent increase will be reflected in the bills to be issued in May.
The statement further mentioned that the current adjustment of Rs2.8372 kWh would be applicable to all the consumer categories excluding the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), K-Electric consumers and lifeline consumers.
Meanwhile, the Power Regulatory Authority has directed all the concerned Distribution Companies (Discos) to strictly comply with the orders of the courts notwithstanding this order.
Continues Increase in Electricity Tariff
In April, the Ministry of Power Division announced that the consumers would possibly get another relief of Rs4.12 per unit in the electricity bills in the month of May as a petition seeking a price cut from Rs2.94 to Rs4.92 per unit in terms of fuel cost adjustment had been submitted to NEPRA.
Earlier in March, NEPRA approved an increase of Rs2.75 per unit in power tariff for the current quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, putting an additional burden on the exorbitant electricity bills for consumers, which was implemented in the context of quarterly adjustment for the second quarter of FY2023-24, having a uniform burden of Rs2.75 per unit on each consumer.
