NEW YORK: Attorney General of New York has said that the court should issue an immediate judgment in her law suit against former US President Donald Trump ruling that he fraudulently built his real state empire, reported western media on Wednesday.

Attorney General Letitia James said that judge Arthur Engoron should not wait for October in trial against the former president.

She said that Trump and his company deceived banks and business associates by giving false financial statements about his wealth and the value of his assets.

Judge Engoron has scheduled a September 22 hearing on James’ appeal. Letitia James seeks $250 million in damages and a ban on Trump on doing business in New York.

Trump’s lawyers term lawsuit a Witch Hunt

Meanwhile Trump’s lawyers and a spokesperson for his company, the Trump Organization have said the lawsuit as part of a “politically motivated Witch Hunt”.

In the last five months Trump has been indicted for four times. He is accused in Georgia and Washington, D.C., over a conspiracy to overturn his 2020 election results, in Florida of hiding classified documents, and in Manhattan of falsifying business records. Trump’s criminal trials would overlap with the busy presidential season.

Judge Engoron for the ruling needs an answer on two questions, whether Trump’s annual financial statements were wrong or deceptive, and whether he and the Trump Organization used those statements while conducting business dealings.

Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, Trump’s children who have worked as company executives have also been named as respondents in the lawsuit.

Ivanka Trump, Trump’s daughter, was also named in the case initially but a state appeals court excluded her from the case in June after observing that allegations against her were barred by the state’s law of limitations.

James filed a case against Trump in September 2022, saying he and his company lied for almost ten years in annual bank statements regarding his financial interests.
