WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister Winston Peters of New Zealand has highlighted the unprecedented global instability facing the world today, emphasizing the need for New Zealand to strengthen partnerships, particularly with the United States, amidst ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. Peters emphasized the necessity of engaging with diverse perspectives and enhancing ties with traditional allies to navigate the complexities of the current global landscape.

In a statement following his visit to the US, Egypt, and Europe, Peters underscored the importance of actively participating in global affairs rather than isolating New Zealand in the South Pacific. He emphasized the critical role of partnerships in building a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region, where the US and China are vying for influence.

During his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington, D.C., Peters reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between New Zealand and the US. Both countries pledged to collaborate more closely in the Pacific Islands region, recognizing the significance of collective efforts in addressing regional challenges.

The relationship between New Zealand and the US has deepened in recent years, driven by shared concerns about China’s expanding presence in the Pacific. This alignment also underscores the importance of alliances in addressing regional and global security challenges.
