Newly-appointed Federal Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Quits as HBL President, CEO

ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Aurangzeb has tendered his resignation as President and Chief Executive Officer of Habib Bank Limited, following his appointment as a Federal Minister in the new cabinet. He is likely to be allocated the portfolio of finance.

In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, HBL said that Muhammad Aurangzeb has tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors of Habib Bank Limited and shall quit as President and Chief Executive Officer of HBL.

HBL Board of Directors accepted Aurangzeb’s resignation, subject to the approval of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), according to the notice.

Subsequently, the HBL Board of Directors has appointed Muhammad Nassir Salim, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of HBL, subject to the approval of the central bank.

Nassir Salim is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer of HBL.

As per information available on the CDC Pakistan website, Nassir Salim has overall thirty-five years of diversified experience in the banking industry both locally and globally. He has been part of HBL since 2017 and has been working as Head of Islamic Banking and Branch Banking since 2021.

Previously, he was Head of Global Operations for three years. He also worked as Chairman of the Board for HBL Currency Exchange.

Before joining HBL, he worked in different financial institutions across the world including as Head of Retail Operations for Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (UAE) and Site President and Director for Treasury and Trade solutions for Citi Bank (USA). He was also Chairman of the Board for NIFT.
